Autumn lambing weekends on Cornish farmstay

Published July 11th, 2018

A farmstay in north Cornwall is inviting families to experience an early lambing season on a working farm this November.

The Olde House, near Polzeath, is a collection of 30 four and five star self-catering cottages spread across the 550 acre Penpont Farm. During ‘Lucky Lambing’ weekends, the team will be welcoming guests to the lambing sheds to meet the new arrivals, learn about farming, and help feed orphaned lambs.

“In most parts of the country lambing takes place in the spring, but thanks to the warmer climate in Cornwall we’re able to start earlier, with our first lambing season in the autumn,” said Jaime Hawkey, manager at The Olde House.

“We’re all very passionate about what we do, and relish the opportunity to share this with our guests. Plus, we can’t think of a better way to spend a weekend than cuddling cute lambs!

“The lambing weekends are the perfect opportunity for families to get away for a weekend, get back to the countryside, and be home again in time for school or work.”

This year there will be two Lucky Lambing weekends – 16 to 18 November, and 23 to 25 November. Any two or three bed cottage will be £250 for a two night stay, with a late checkout of 6pm on the Sunday.

Over 500 lambs are expected to be born throughout the autumn. The tour of the lambing sheds will include a talk from the Hawkey family, who have been farming at The Olde House for over 100 years.

Lucky Lambing weekends can be booked by calling The Olde House on 01208 813219.
