A leading South West developer saw huge interest for homes at its flagship development in Hayle this weekend as it opened its show home to the public.
125 new homes are being built by Gilbert & Goode at its Copper Hills development in High Lanes, Hayle, including 36 affordable homes for Ocean Housing. Members of the public who had registered early interest in the development were invited to an appointment-only viewing of a four-bedroomed show home from 9 July, which saw an unprecedented level of demand.
Gilbert & Goode’s managing director, Pete Sadler, said: “We had more than 300 buyers who had pre-registered their interest in Copper Hills, and welcomed 20 of these onsite over the opening weekend to visit our marketing suite and view the amazing show home.
“All of the available homes in our first release are now reserved, with 92% of them going to local buyers. We also have a significant number of people on a waiting list for the next phases.
“We knew there was high demand for homes in this part of Cornwall when we started building last year, though the number of enquiries has far exceeded our expectations. There’s just not enough supply to meet the demand at the moment, so to make sure the homes are being reserved fairly we are asking everyone to register their interest first before we schedule an appointment with them.”
Around 30% of Copper Hills is affordable housing, which will be managed by Gilbert & Goode’s sister company Ocean Housing, and will be a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership.
As part of the development, Gilbert & Goode is making financial contributions of around £750K to the local area. This money is going towards creating a new landscaped area of public open space which will include adult gym stations, a scooter track and play area, as well as improvements to the open space at Ellis Park, funding for Bodriggy Academy, and highways improvements to Carwin Rise in accordance with the Hayle Transport Strategy.
Pete continued: “In order to keep everyone safe and stay in line with Covid restrictions, we are running all viewings by private appointment for the foreseeable future.
“We are hoping to be able to operate a more relaxed drop-in system once restrictions are lifted, where prospective buyers will be able to turn up without an appointment booked. We will also be looking to hold a viewing event later this summer.”
