Cornish developer wins gold in Devon building awards

Published August 21st, 2020

St Austell-based housing developer Gilbert & Goode has won gold in the Devon Building Control Partnership (DBCP) Building Excellence Awards.

The company won the award for the best large development at Kelly Gardens in Tavistock, which was built on behalf of Blue Cedar Homes.

Nominated by building surveyors and inspectors, the awards recognise high quality builds, innovative design, and effective project management.

Lisa Lake, business development and support manager at Devon Building Control Partnership, said: “Our Excellence Awards are an opportunity for us to celebrate the very best construction in the region, recognising the high level of skill and professionalism that the building industry is capable of.

“Finalists are judged not just on architectural beauty, but on the excellence shown from a construction and technical building point of view – celebrating the design and construction teams that find innovative and creative solutions.

“Kelly Gardens was a well-organised, efficient and tidy site. The workmanship and attention to detail was evident to our surveyors during the inspection programme, and is reflected in the finished product. It is a site to be really proud of, and truly deserving of this award.”

Kelly Gardens comprises 12 luxury detached homes, built exclusively for people aged 55 and over. Each property features a private rear garden with patio area, a garage and parking, and is finished with unique fixtures and fittings. Many of the homes also benefit from far-reaching views over Dartmoor and the surrounding countryside.

Pete Sadler, managing director of Gilbert & Goode, said: “It was great to work with Blue Cedar Homes at Kelly Gardens. I am very proud of our team for delivering such a fantastic development with exceptional design, materials and workmanship.

“We have built our reputation through a history of developing high quality homes, and are thrilled that our hard work and dedication has been recognised throughout this project.”

Last year, Gilbert & Goode became the first company in the world to achieve ISO 18404 accreditation for Lean and Six Sigma, in partnership with the Construction Industry Training Board. The scheme ensures continuous improvement of staff and a consistent approach to building practice.

Gilbert & Goode has a selection of new homes available to purchase on its current developments in Lelant and the suburbs of Truro, and will be breaking ground on new schemes across Cornwall within the next year.
