Cornwall’s new luxury cycle tour

Published January 13th, 2020

Active travellers can now enjoy a cycling tour of Cornwall and stay in some of the county’s most luxurious accommodation, thanks to the introduction of a brand new tour from cycling holiday operator, Cornish Cycle Tours.

The company has developed The Cornish Luxury Tour, a relaxed route through some of the county’s most desirable and picturesque locations, with overnight stays in some of Cornwall’s finest hotels.

New for 2020, the self-guided cycling tour is a six-day break, covering a total distance of 147 miles. Beginning in Padstow and ending in St Ives, the tour has an average cycling distance of 30 miles per day.

For cyclists who want a little bit of extra pedal power, electric bikes can be hired for all leisure tours. Cornish Cycle Tours use the Giant Quick E model, a popular option for travellers who want to complete the more challenging sections of the route with ease.

Lanyon Rowe, owner of Cornish Cycle Tours said: “There was a growing demand from some of our customers for more high-end accommodation. Whilst we always provide very comfortable rooms, the hotels on this new tour are some of the best in Cornwall, matching the beautiful scenery experienced whilst cycling during the day.”

With stops at Carlyon Bay, St Mawes, Mullion, and Mousehole, cyclists will get the chance to stay in a range of stunning locations, including accommodation at The Idle Rocks, Mullion Cove, and the Carbis Bay Hotel.

Lanyon continued: “I have hand-picked each hotel, each showcasing the finest rooms, leisure spaces, and dining Cornwall has to offer. This new tour makes the most of these luxurious locations, providing our cyclists with added comfort and facilities to relax at the end of each day.”

Tour highlights include The Eden Project, home to the largest indoor rainforest in the world; and St Michael’s Mount, the iconic Medieval castle which lies on a rocky island in the middle of Mount’s Bay.

The route is considered medium difficulty, following coastal roads and country trails. Prices start from £1,444 per person, including six nights luxury accommodation, luggage transfers, and detailed route maps for each day. Cycle hire is available at £75 per person, or £200 per person for an electric bike.

Arrival transfers for this tour are available from Cornwall Airport Newquay and Bodmin railway station.

Established in 2007 by Lanyon Rowe, Cornish Cycle Tours is the only cycle tour operator in Cornwall. It runs 15 self-guided tours for visitors wishing to see the county by bicycle, ranging from three days to 14 days. Both novices and experienced cyclists are catered for, featuring relaxing leisure tours and more challenging sport tours. Group tours are also available for up to 25 people.
