Cosy up with newborn lambs in Cornwall this November

Published September 6th, 2019

A farmstay in north Cornwall is inviting animal-loving families to experience an early lambing season on a working farm this autumn.

The Olde House, near Polzeath, is a collection of 28 four and five star self-catering cottages spread across the 550 acre Penpont Farm. During ‘Lucky Lambing’ weekends, the team will be welcoming guests to the lambing sheds to meet the new arrivals, learn about farming, and help feed orphaned lambs.

Jaime Hawkey, manager at The Olde House commented, “We’re so lucky to have two lambing seasons in Cornwall thanks to the warm climate we experience in the county, and it’s great to be able to share our farming passion with guests.

“This is an opportunity for young children to get stuck in with the animals, spend some quality time as a family for the weekend, and be home again in time for school.”

This year there will be two Lucky Lambing weekends – 22 to 24 November, and 29 November to 1 December. Any two-bedroomed cottage is available for £275, or three-bedroomed for £325, staying from Friday to Sunday with a late checkout of 6pm.

Over 500 lambs are expected to be born throughout the autumn. The tour of the lambing sheds will include a talk from members of the Hawkey family, which has been farming at The Olde House for more than 100 years.

Work was recently completed on new leisure facilities, including a 15 metre indoor swimming pool, children’s pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, as well as a games room and communal lounge – the perfect place to retreat and warm up after time spent outdoors with the lambs.

Lucky Lambing weekends can be booked by calling The Olde House on 01208 813219.
