First homes complete at Polgrean Place regeneration scheme

Published July 26th, 2021

The first 10 homes, community space, and business units have been completed at a multi-million pound regeneration project in St Blazey, Cornwall.

Polgrean Place is a significant project being delivered by Ocean Housing to provide 60 brand new affordable homes for the area, offering a mix of shared ownership and social rent houses and flats.

It also includes two business units – which will be occupied by a local hairdressers and chip shop – parking, landscaping, and a community hub to be used by local services and community groups.

Ocean Housing Group’s chief executive, Mark Gardner, said: “This is a huge milestone for us after years of planning, consultation, and development. The buildings are looking fantastic, and it marks the start of being able to bring a new lease of life back into the community.

“Despite some setbacks due to Covid, the team has worked so hard to stay on track and deliver this first phase on time, and local families have now been able to move into their new homes.”

Ocean Housing’s sister company, Gilbert & Goode, is the main building contractor for the project. They began work in January 2020 with the demolition of the old flats, and plan to complete the remaining 50 new homes over the coming year.

Mark continued: “We would like to thank the local community for their continued patience and support whilst the building works have progressed, and we look forward to shortly welcoming everyone to a small celebration event to showcase what we have achieved so far.

“This is our biggest project to date, and I am so proud of the teams at Ocean and Gilbert & Goode for working together to make such a positive and long-lasting difference for the entire area.”
