New for 2017 at Cornish farmstay: £500K pool development

Published October 20th, 2016

Construction has begun on a new £500K swimming pool development at an award winning Cornish farmstay.

The development at The Olde House, in Chapel Amble near Polzeath, will incorporate a new 15 metre indoor swimming pool, toddlers’ pool, steam room, jacuzzi and a sauna. It will be open in early summer 2017.

The new pool will be next to the current swimming pool building, which will be turned in to a function room, games room, reception and offices.

Shaun Hawkey, manager at The Olde House, commented: “Our current pool is great, but has been open for 31 years – so the new development will vastly improve our offering, with a larger pool and refurbished changing area. As we are creating an entirely new building, we are able to keep the old pool open right up until the new one is ready – so guests will never be without somewhere to go for a dip.”

The new games room will cater for older children and teenagers, with air hockey, table football, a pool table and screens for film nights – all free for guests to use. The space will also act as a function room, with a dedicated kitchen area.

The pool will continue to be heated entirely by a biomass boiler. The Olde House also utilises a vast solar array to provide much of the power required on site.

Shaun Hawkey added: “It’s important for us to continue growing and to respond to the comments that we get from our guests. By extending the space, we are  improving on what we already have, while also creating activities that will appeal to all ages.”

The Olde House is a working farm, with 30 self-catering cottages. It has been shortlisted in two categories at the 2016/17 Cornwall Tourism Awards: self-catering holiday provider of the year and wildlife friendly tourism business.

The farm welcomes guests all year round, including during the two lambing seasons – November and December, and February and March.

Press trips can be arranged on request. For more information visit www.theoldehouse.co.uk.
