A revamp for West Dulwich beer garden

Published May 25th, 2016

The garden at south London pub The Rosendale has seen a recent renovation in time for the spring bank holiday.

The handsome West Dulwich pub is one of seven sites owned by Three Cheers Pub Co, which was set up in 2003 by childhood friends Tom Peake, Mark Reynolds and Nick Fox.

Beer Garden Co.’s Ross Clarke, who worked on the extensive renovation of the beer garden at sister pub The Avalon last spring, has this year turned his attention to the popular terrace area at The Rosendale.

Clarke has introduced a combination of seating options to accommodate both drinkers and diners, and varying party sizes. The terrace is now home to two feasting tables with long larch benches each seating up to 24 people, which can be booked in advance.

Individual areas of high seating for drinkers, and low banquettes for diners, are defined by bay and cypress trees, interspersed with white lavender, mint and thyme. The materials chosen for the project focus on industrial metal and native-grown wood from sustainable, managed woodland in Dorset.

Co-founder Tom Peake said, “The Rosendale has become a popular neighbourhood pub, and we felt that it was time to make some investment in the outside space which can become particularly busy on warmer days.

“We were thrilled with Ross’s transformation of The Avalon’s garden last year, and we think he has done a great job of revamping the terrace at The Rosendale, and hope that whether someone is dropping in for a quick pint or settling in for the afternoon over a lazy lunch they will enjoy the updates.  The garden’s boules pit which is in high demand in the summer months has also been newly refurbished.”

The outdoor bar will be serving London favourites on draft such as Meantime Pale Ale and Camden Hells lager. The pub’s à la carte and bar menus will be available throughout the garden, and a rotisserie chicken menu at weekends when the weather permits.

The rotisserie chicken will be prepared with the house barbecue marinade and served either whole, or by the half or quarter, with mouth-watering sides such as chicken-dripping roast potatoes and Caesar salad.

The Rosendale garden’s feasting tables are available to book in advance.
