Summer success for Cornish brewery

Published September 18th, 2018

Cornwall’s Harbour Brewing has won five industry awards since August, including being named as the UK’s best producer of American-style IPA at the World Beer Awards.

The globally recognised World Beer Awards assesses beers from across the world, which are blind-judged by a panel of more than 70 experienced industry experts.

Harbour’s Little Rock IPA was named best in the country in the American-style IPA category. The 6.3% ABV beer, which has a warm, rich and citrus flavour, was pitted against IPA beers from across the UK.

The team also picked up silver in the UK lager category for its Helles lager, which features traditional crisp and clean flavours associated with a Germanic style, with light citrus notes.

Stuart Howe, Head Brewer at Harbour, said: “It’s great to see that every beer we entered received an award at such a top level.

“I’ve judged the World Beer Awards in the past, and as a judge you’re looking out for a beer which is technically accomplished, drinkable, and has a real stand out character. With every batch we make at Harbour, we aim to match this description.”

The 30 bbl brewery, which has recently launched its new online store, also enjoyed success at the International Beer Challenge (IBC) in August. The brewery won two bronze awards for its Helles Lager and Antipodean IPA, as well as gold for its Little Rock IPA.

The winning beers were presented at the IBC’s Brewers Awards evening which took place on 3 August.

Managing Director Eddie Lofthouse said: “Our team at the brewery in Cornwall is committed and passionate about creating the best beer, so it’s fantastic to see their hard work being recognised with these international awards.

“It’s an exciting time to be a part of Harbour Brewing. Our beer is selling out at an unprecedented rate at the moment, and we’re in the final stages of completing a brand new R&D facility.”

A range of Harbour’s beers are available to purchase at Asda, Morrisons and Marks & Spencer supermarkets throughout the UK, and is sold in restaurants including Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant in Cornwall, MeatLiquor, Hawksmoor Group, The Ledbury, and Blacklock.
