The ultimate autumn and winter calendar for wine and cheese lovers

An independent wine bar and deli in Newquay, Cornwall, is preparing for autumn and winter with a host of events, a new seasonal menu, and the launch of its Christmas hampers.

Owners of The Bottle, Rob Palmer and Toyah Marshall, have developed an interesting calendar of wine tastings, a cheese night, and collaborative events with local businesses, which will focus on the changing seasons and food pairings in the lead up to the festive celebrations.

Toyah said: “We’re finishing off the summer in style with a one-off al fresco event celebrating the Basque country, before heading into autumn with a showcase on orange wine, then popping open the sparkling wines as we prepare for Christmas.

“Our passion is introducing people to some of the finest produce from our favourite European regions, and there is no better event to do this than our Mont d’Or night. This delicious French cheese is only made between August and March, so is a truly seasonal and unique event to join us for.

“We’re also thrilled to be collaborating with two other fantastic Newquay businesses. We’ll be welcoming local cocktail bar Tom Thumb in November for a cocktail and cheese night, and florist Hayley Scott Blooms will be running a wreath making workshop with us in December. The wreath making went down so well last year that we will be running two sessions on 12 December, and everyone will be able to enjoy a glass of bubbles along with a cheese and charcuterie board while they’re getting creative.”

Events calendar:
26 September, 7pm – Al fresco Spanish wine and pinxtos, £15.
17 October, 7pm – Orange wine, £30.
24 October, 7pm – Mont d’Or cheese, £10.
14 November, 7pm – Cocktails and cheese with Tom Thumb, £40.
5 December, 7pm – Sparkling wine, £30.
12 December, 12pm and 4pm – Wreath making with Hayley Scott Blooms, £45.

A new autumn menu with more hot food options will also be launching this month, featuring dishes such as comté fries.

Christmas hampers will also be available to order from November, and can be delivered by mail order nationwide. Priced from £40.

Rob continued: “Our hampers make excellent presents, and feature a selection of wine, cheeses, charcuterie, crackers, and pickles. We have a variety to choose from including English, French, Spanish, Vegan, and Sparkling, or we can create one bespoke.”
