Cornish distillery celebrates first birthday and awards success

Published April 17th, 2020

A Cornwall-based distillery has received three industry accolades, including two top awards at the World Rum Awards, in the same month it celebrates its first anniversary.

Rosemullion Distillery received a ‘Style’ award for its Spiced Rum, which is given to the very best in each category at the internationally-renowned World Rum Awards, as well as a gold for its Gold Rum.

The distillery’s Harvest Gin – an autumnal spirit made with apples and plums gathered from the distillery’s orchard – has been announced as a finalist in The Gin Guide Awards, which highlight the exceptional products, distilleries and people within the global gin industry. Winners will be announced in the coming weeks.

Liz Bradbury, who started Rosemullion with her husband, Andy, 12 months ago, said: “We’re amazed at the reception our rum and gin have received since we started selling our products a year ago. We’ve had such great feedback from consumers and our industry peers.

“What began as a hobby has grown into a multi-award winning distillery, and we’re looking forward to seeing what the next 12 months have in store.”

The World Rum Awards are part of The World Drinks Awards – selecting the very best in all internationally-recognised styles of drinks, which are blind-tasted by a panel of experts.

Speaking about Rosemullion’s Gold Rum, judges at the World Rum Awards commented: “The nose starts off with tropical pineapple, mango and slightly overripe tropical fruit. There are light floral notes and a lovely citrus lemon and lime aroma note. The rum is very pleasant on the palate with a warm and round mouthfeel.”

Of the Spiced Rum, judges said: “Nose of heavy citrus zest and oils, cloves, ginger, and subtle spice. Complex start on the palate, with an orange chocolate finish dominant. Warming, spicy, interesting, and balanced.”

Rosemullion Distillery currently has seven products in its range of gin and rum, including the latest release: Seafarer’s Gin. Inspired by the salty air and stormy seas which lash the coastline of Cornwall, the new spirit is made using a blend of botanicals found along the coast paths, and seaweed from the shoreline.

Other products include a traditional Dry Gin, a fresh citrus-infused Summer Gin, and a seasonal Christmas Spirit – with notes of nutmeg, cloves, candied orange, raisins, ginger and muscovado sugar.

The full range is available from www.drinkfinder.co.uk, or select outlets throughout the South West. A complete list of stockists can be found here: www.rosemulliondistillery.com/stockists.
