Ocean Housing Group has broken ground on two new developments in Cornwall to provide much needed affordable housing in the county.
A total of 43 new homes are being built for Ocean Housing by Gilbert & Goode at sites in St Teath in north Cornwall, and Trewoon near St Austell. Both developments, which will be owned and managed by Ocean Housing, are 100% affordable and will have a mix of homes available for shared ownership and social rent.
Pete Sadler, managing director of Gilbert & Goode, said: “We’ve made a good start on both sites. We began in Trewoon in February, and already have half the foundations finished and the first timber frames going up in early May.
“St Teath got underway in March, and we are making good progress there with a new site entrance, foundation excavations, and blockwork commencing.”
The development in Trewoon, named Park Trevail, has 19 homes which are due for completion in January 2022. Breaca Way, the development in St Teath, is a slightly larger project of 24 homes which is due for competition in February 2022.
Both schemes will comprise two and three-bedroomed properties for shared ownership and rent, as well as one-bedroom flats for rent.
Mark Gardner, chief executive of Ocean Housing Group, said: “Cornwall’s property market is booming right now, though there is a serious shortage of affordable housing.
“We want to provide high quality homes for families throughout the county, and our aim is to work with Cornwall Council and Homes England to create safe and secure communities for local people to live in. We are very grateful for their support in bringing these new schemes forward.”

Homes available for social rent will be listed on Cornwall Homechoice towards the end of this year.
