Major works to replace the lifts in Cornwall’s only high rise block of flats will begin this autumn.
Park House, on the western side of St Austell, was built in 1968 and stands at 36 metres high. It is owned by Cornish social housing provider, Ocean Housing, and comprises 67 flats spread across 12 floors.
Frances Turner, managing director of Ocean Housing, said: “The existing lifts at Park House are nearing the end of their expected life, and repairs are beginning to become more frequent.
“We have decided now is the right time to invest in new lifts to ensure a consistent service to all residents living in the building – providing faster, modern and more reliable access to each floor.
“We have appointed Jackson Lifts Ltd to carry out the works. They are very experienced in replacing passenger lifts within occupied buildings, and will be helping us manage the complex logistics.”
Preparation works will start over the next few months, with the main works due to begin in September. It is hoped the new lifts will be completed by the end of April 2022.
Frances continued: “The Ocean team will be working closely with residents to keep them informed about the works, keeping disruption to a minimum.
“Our contractors will be working on one lift car at a time to ensure that the other lift remains operational during the works. We will also be talking to each resident individually to help manage routine activities and procedures in the event of an emergency.”
