One of Cornwall’s leading housing developers has secured its first housing site in Devon.
St Austell-based Gilbert & Goode has purchased three acres in the west Devon village of Folly Gate, near Okehampton, with plans to build a total of 23 homes – 16 open market and 7 affordable.
Gilbert & Goode’s land consultant, Ashley Bower, said: “This is such a fantastic location for our first Gilbert & Goode development in Devon. Our team has previously worked on projects in the county as a contractor for other developers, though this will be the first development which we can call our own.
“The site is situated to the south of the village with direct access to the A386, and the village pub is just a short walk from the site entrance. Okehampton is the nearest major town which will provide essential living services including schools, shops, doctors and employment.
“There are spectacular views which will be a real selling point of this scheme. The homes will have a rural feel and benefit from plenty of space and gardens, perfect for family living.”
Subject to planning approval, work is forecast to begin on site in autumn 2022, with the show home opening in spring 2023.
As part of Ocean Housing Group, Gilbert & Goode’s main focus is to be a profitable and sustainable residential developer which contributes to the charitable aims of the group, with its profits gift-aided back into Ocean to invest in social housing.
Ocean Housing Group’s chief executive, Mark Gardner, said: “We are extremely conscious of the housing crisis here in the South West, and are looking to build hundreds of high quality homes over the next few years to provide families with a safe place to live.
“In addition to the land at Folly Gate, Gilbert & Goode has also recently acquired 3.4 acres of land in the Cornish village of St Erth, with plans to build 38 homes including affordable housing and ecological zones.”
