A collaborative approach helps tenant to get on housing ladder

Published March 27th, 2019

A new tenant in an Ocean Housing property in Chandler Park, Penryn was delighted to welcome MP for Truro and Falmouth, Sarah Newton and Ocean Housing MD, Frances Turner, to his home, after nearly fifteen years of living in sub-standard accommodation.

Mr Davies, age 42 had been living in a privately rented one bedroom flat. It was in a poor state of repair and he had become concerned for his health as well as the health of his son, Luca, age six. Following repeated attempts to rectify the situation, Mr Davies approached Sarah Newton for help in moving forward.

Sarah Newton commented:  “When Mr Davies contacted me, it became clear that he had been living in sub-standard accommodation for a long time and was struggling to find somewhere decent and affordable to live.”

Working in partnership with Cornwall Council, to get Mr Davies on the housing register, a suitable affordable two-bedroomed property was found through Ocean Housing on the Chandler Park development.

The homes at Chandler Park are a mixture of affordable rent and shared ownership properties, helping local families get a foot on the housing ladder in Penryn.

The 19 affordable homes are the latest addition to the Ocean Group’s ambitious new housing programme of 3,000 homes by 2030, which is making a difference to Cornwall’s housing shortage, whilst investing in the local economy.

Frances Turner, Managing Director of Ocean Housing said: “It was wonderful to see Neil and Luca enjoying their new home. This fantastic development is yet another example of our commitment to providing high quality, affordable housing across Cornwall.”
