A provider of social and affordable housing recently brought together residents of Chapel Fields in Saint Austell for a Community Action Day, to discuss their homes and neighbourhood.
Ocean Housing’s aims for the event were to engage with tenants about housing and other services, provide advice and support, and promote community spirit.
38 residents joined the company and local agencies throughout the afternoon, and were provided with free refreshments and a skip to clear away unwanted garden items in preparation for summer.
Residents shared feedback with Ocean’s neighbourhood team, customer accounts team and tenant partnership team, and addressed any ongoing issues with local services.
The event was organised by tenant partnership co-ordinator, Abigail Vercoe. She said: “It was a wonderful opportunity for us to meet with residents and to hear about what issues needed to be addressed in their local area.
“We have been working closely with the ABC Residents Association, local councillor Jordan Rowse and Helen from Safer St Austell to empower the residents in the neighbourhood to get their community feeling back.
“The sun was shining and both private and Ocean residents came out to make use of the free skip to tidy up their gardens and mingle with staff and other stakeholders that attended the event.”
Additional advice was available from Cornwall Police, Citizens Advice Bureau, Safer St Austell, Konnect Communities and ABC Residents Association. They were also joined by Cornwall Council’s library van for residents to use throughout the afternoon.
Further Community Action Days will be communicated on Ocean’s social media channels, and on its website: oceanhousing.com.
