Gilbert & Goode turns 50

Published June 10th, 2022

One of the South West’s leading housing developers recently celebrated its 50th birthday.

Gilbert & Goode hosted an event at St Austell Brewery, where staff, suppliers, partners, board members and contractors commemorated the milestone.

The company was founded in 1972, and was acquired by Ocean Housing Group in 2005. Last year, it repositioned as a developer of high-quality homes and went through a complete rebrand, with a new modern identity to reflect its vision for the future.

Gordon Innes, managing director of the company, welcomed attendees to the event and thanked everyone for their support and contributions to the business.

He said: “I am pleased to report that Gilbert & Goode has continued to thrive and grow since 2005 and we have a plan in place which will see us double in size in the next 18 months.

“We continue to create local jobs, support local supply chains, and advocate for the communities we serve. I would like to thank everyone that has played a part in the evolution of our business. We are extremely proud of the brand and look forward to continuing to expand into new geographical areas.”

Gordon also thanked founders David and Sandra Gilbert who attended the event: “My biggest thank you is to David and Sandra for their innovation and vision 50 years ago, without which we would not be standing here today.”

He also highlighted the flagship development, Copper Hills, in Hayle: “The development has 125 homes of mixed tenure, across the first two phases. It has been an enormous success for the business and is our benchmark for future projects, in terms of customer care, build rates and sales value.”

The company’s first home and development was The Old Carpenters Workshop in Charlestown, before moving to Saint Austell.

It has since carried out repairs on a church, extended schools and developed hundreds of homes for locals in Cornwall. The company has recently announced its second site acquisition in Devon, demonstrating its ambition to grow into further locations across the South West.

New sites have just been acquired in St Erth, Merton, Folly Gate and many more. For more information about developments, visit their website: https://www.gilbertandgoode.co.uk/.
