The Park Trevail housing development recently welcomed its first residents, and hosted a celebratory event to mark its official opening.
Ocean Housing, leading provider of social and affordable housing in Cornwall, organised and oversaw the celebration, which took place on the 16 June in the village of Trewoon, on the outskirts of Saint Austell.
Stakeholders, Ocean residents, and employees all attended the opening to commemorate another completed scheme by the not-for-profit organisation.
A welcome speech was made by the chair of Ocean Housing Group Board Jonathan Adlington, who officially then opened the scheme. This was followed by a few words from councillors’ John Kneller and Olly Monk.
John Kneller said of the development: “Ocean Housing has done a great job here and provided 19 lovely, affordable homes for local people. Every property is now occupied by somebody with a strong local connection, including young people from the village community of Trewoon.
“This is not just about houses. Behind every front door at Park Trevail is a story of local people having the opportunity to set up a home. Ocean has proved that its not-for-profit charitable approach as a registered provider of affordable homes really does work and I am delighted to say that our faith in the provision of affordable homes for our local communities has been restored.”
Refreshments were provided on site and Ocean residents were able to feedback to the team at Trewoon about how they are settling into their new homes.
The development was built by sister company Gilbert & Goode. It consists of 19 affordable homes, with 13 of those rented to individuals with a primary or secondary connection to the St Mewan area. The other six properties are under a shared ownership scheme, allowing residents to get their foot on the property ladder.
