Three SPAR stores in Portsmouth have taken part in a tree planting initiative as part of National Tree Week.
Managers from the stores on Allaway Avenue, San Diego Road, and Tukes Avenue, plus their area manager, spent a day at Adhurst Estate Allotments in Petersfield planting twenty-two trees, pruning existing trees and hedgerows and fertilising the ground to encourage new growth.
Organised by The Tree Council, National Tree Week ran between Saturday 26 November and Sunday 4 December 2022, marking the start of the winter tree planting season. Events were held across the South Downs National Park, focussing on improving habitat connectivity for local wildlife and supporting tree growth.
Indya Mclaren, SPAR area manager, said: “We had a wonderful day at Adhurst Allotments and are delighted that we managed to plant so many new trees.
“It’s so important to look after the nature around us and I’m delighted that SPAR is committed to doing this. I’m already looking forward to the next event where I hope to take team members from my whole area which I think will be great for team building, and will allow us to make even more of an impact.”
SPAR was invited to take part in the Partner Planting Day due to its continued support of The Tree Council.
This activity was carried out as part of SPAR’s Nurture Our Neighbourhood initiative, a scheme created to help its stores support local causes, celebrate local communities and demonstrate SPAR’s commitment to improving the areas around its stores.
