SPAR wholesaler Appleby Westward began its new partnership with national bakery chain Greggs on Thursday 16 February 2023.
The partnership saw Greggs open its first in-store franchise in an Appleby Westward-owned SPAR store in Bemerton Heath, Salisbury.
As part of a recent regeneration of the store, a Greggs franchise was installed to expand the store’s ready-to-eat food offering which now includes sausage rolls, muffins, doughnuts, breakfast rolls, filled baguettes and more, alongside barista coffees including flat whites, cappuccinos, and lattes, and a variety of teas and cold beverages. It is part of a wider strategy for Appleby Westward which will see its company-owned stores partner with other complementary brands to give its customers a wider variety of products.
To help build anticipation of the new opening, Appleby Westward and Greggs distributed money-saving vouchers to properties in the local area. The vouchers include the opportunity to get a free sausage roll, Greggs’ most popular product.
Adam Welsford, Food Services Manager at Appleby Westward, said: “We had a wonderful day on Thursday and couldn’t have asked for a better reception from our customers. It was great to see so many happy faces and kick off our partnership with Greggs with a bang.
“We have already seen the positive effect this has had on the local community and have received lots of great feedback from the store team. It has made us even more excited to continue and grow the partnership with Greggs and we have already began considering which stores to work with next.”
The store was kitted out with branded balloons and promotional posters to celebrate the opening day. The store team also marked the occasion with a ribbon-cutting event alongside the Greggs team. A professional photographer was in attendance and captured a selection of high-resolution images of the day.
The addition of a Greggs bakery at the Bemerton Heath store has created ten jobs for the local community, on top of the existing SPAR team.
Greggs will be open every day between 07:00 and 17:00 and the SPAR store will be open between 07:00 and 22:00 Monday to Saturday, and between 08:00 and 22:00 on Sundays.
